UPCOMING CHANGES FOR FORE! RESERVATIONS CUSTOMERS AND PA-DSS COMPLIANCE - Recent guidelines and timeline announcements by the credit card industry may impact our golf course clients within the next year. According to a recent statement by industry regulators, credit card processors are going to force their merchants (golf courses) to be in compliance with all industry regulations (PA-DSS and PCI) by July 1, 2010. We don't know if this credit card industry deadline is a "firm deadline" or simply a date that will move back similar to the annoying Digital TV transition that was delayed many times over. Whatever the deadline, Fore! Reservations has been diligently working to make sure our customers are protected should the credit card industry force our golf courses to adhere to these strict policies.
First, we have been undergoing a full audit and committing thousands of hours of development time to make sure our product meets all of these upcoming PCI and PA-DSS standards. This has been an expensive and time-consuming process for us, but one we have been willing to make on our customers' behalf. During this process, we have been forced to make technological and hardware changes that will affect any customer requiring PA-DSS compliance. The 2010 product has been converted over to a SQL Express Database and requires a "black box server" that must be provided by Fore! Reservations. This new computer will serve as the database server and is the main line of defense for all sensitive data.
The estimated cost for that server is $1,500 and includes remote setup and training by a Fore! Reservations Certified Installer. Also, we are currently looking for golf courses to install this 2010 version along with the black box server. If you are interested in doing so, the cost for the server and training will come down and you will get a head start on implementing all of these credit card security/PA-DSS features.

FORE! INTERNET SHUTDOWN PROCEDURES - If you are a Fore! Internet User it's important to follow the correct shutdown procedures each evening. Doing so will help ensure your Internet tee times operate correctly. The shutdown procedures should be done in Fore! Reservations on the machine that runs Fore! Internet. In Fore! Reservations, double click the traffic light in the lower right corner or choose File | Setup | Internet, then click the Shutdown Button. This process will mark Internet is Master, synchronize one last time and then log off the machine. This process can take a few minutes, so please be patient. Leave the machine running overnight.
